Have you ever heard some people say "education is the future"? Well, sure, but not everybody can afford to pay for it. That's why, for those who missed out on college, there's always the Internet. Yeah, it had the potential to become a great educator for the masses, but those dreams have been shot down. For some reason, people get dumber when they're online... We've encountered some pretty awful takes while surfing the web that almost made us lose faith in humanity, and a few were so cringe-worthy that we had to share them with you. If you want to know more, keep reading!
Can You Get More Entitled Than This?
Can someone explain how it's 2023, and in many cultures, having a female child is still considered bad? By now, women have proven they're capable of becoming successful on their own, but that doesn't stop some people from trying to put them down. Seriously, listen to this outrageous story. One woman in China was sued by their parents AFTER THEY GAVE HER UP WHEN SHE WAS TWO, and you won't believe why.
When they found out the daughter they'd abandoned had money, they tried to pressure her into buying her biological brother an apartment. When she refused, they took her to court!
Apparently, Jesus Was American
Why do people from the US always think their country is the center of the universe? Come on, Americans, even you have to admit that's true sometimes! The worst part isn't them being wrong, but being so confident while being so utterly wrong. We're not talking about forgetting what the capital of Chile is. The mistakes we're talking about are on the level of believing Jesus was from the US!
Jesus probably didn't even know the American continent existed. Didn't they read the old and new testaments? Because they're pretty clearly set in the Middle East...
Isn't the Government Meant to Protect You?
What is the government's role, really? The discussion is more suited to government classes at school instead of a random article on the Internet. That said, one thing most people can agree on is that it should ensure the rules are applied fairly and equally to all... including the government. Except in this case, they made a mistake and tried to get the victim to pay for it.
How does that even make sense? They sent the notices to the wrong address, tore down the man's home, and then tried to get him to pay for essentially leaving him homeless!
A Fundamental Misunderstanding of What "Odd" Means
In what grade do most people learn what "odd" and "even" numbers are? Third? It must be pretty early because it seems that some adults have managed to forget it all. For anyone who needs a reminder: odd numbers can't be divided by two evenly. As for the "even" ones, aren't those self-explanatory? Look, we're sure everyone reading this knows their math, but some people on the Internet don't.
How severe was their brain fart for them to list everything but odd numbers? The downside of the Internet is that everything you post lives forever, even the dumb stuff.
Yes, Things Get Wet When It Rains
There's something we've been mulling over lately. It's a big question, and the answer might mean a before and after in our lives. Here it goes: are people getting dumber with each year that passes? Many of you might be thinking, YES! But let us explain. Maybe humanity isn't getting stupider; it's just that those few idiots that always existed now get more exposure. We bet people like this have always existed.
You know, that kind that complains that the street gets wet when it rains. However, in the past, they didn't have Facebook and Twitter to post their dumb rants on.
How Did They Reach That Conclusion?
Many linguists —the people who study languages— have argued that what makes us human is our ability to use languages. What's more, they claim the human brain is already predisposed to learn a language. Otherwise, how could babies learn such complex systems in such a short amount of time? It's a pretty interesting point, and languages do set us apart from other animals. However, it doesn't necessarily mean we're smarter.
As if that wasn't already clear from what you've read so far, this person believes anything that can't talk doesn't have a brain. We thought the only animals without them lived underwater.
That's Teaching the Wrong Lesson
Don't you hate it when you get blamed for something you didn't do? The frustration can get bad enough that it makes you feel like you're going to explode. It's even worse when the same person accusing you of doing the wrong thing is the one that did it! Now that we think of it, that happened a lot more often when we were kids... That's depressing.
In this case, their dad was the one who did it. How's that supposed to teach anything? It did leave them one valuable lesson: adults often blame kids for their mistakes.
Why You Can't Win an Argument Online
At times, seeing the state of the world can bring you down, and we know we're not helping by showing you the dumbest of humanity. However, it's time to inject some positivity into the proceedings. Here's an example of how you can have a constructive discussion online, where everybody comes out of it having learned something new. Wait, that's not what the picture is about? Does it show the opposite?
Hmm... This picture better illustrates why you can't win arguments on the Internet. People will downvote your comment even if you're right. Oh well, at least we tried.
It Doesn't Work Like That
How much happier would we've been in high school and college if knowledge could be acquired through osmosis? You know, the process where a solvent passes through a membrane or whatever. Look, we don't precisely remember the definition, which makes our point stronger. What we meant to say is that we wish we could've studied just by touching the words and absorbing them. Unfortunately, that's not how things work.
Yes, random person on the Internet, that applies to you too. You're not a doctor just because you're vegan and related to one. Becoming a physician takes years of training!
Love Makes You Stupid
We want to preface this by saying we're not looking to burst anyone's bubble. You're fully entitled to believe in the power of love as a cure for everything from skin issues to anxiety, and there's no denying it can make you happier. However, there are some things that it can't do anything about, like stupidity. In fact, it usually makes people dumber because they're blinded by their beloved.
That's why these two didn't realize that the sweet nothings they were texting each other were precisely that: nothing. At least they seem to be a good fit.
There's a Reason for Those Ridges
Do you know what car developers focus most on nowadays? It's not making them faster. Neither is it increasing fuel efficiency, although they do put a lot of resources into that. Their main goal is to make the vehicles safer. However, the wheels also play a big part. Yeah, those ridges have a purpose, which is to increase grip. Almost every car owner knows this—the key word being "almost."
You probably face-palmed so hard the second you saw this. We know we did. How could someone be so clueless? Is this really what humanity has come to?
AI Is Coming
The AI revolution is upon us! Well, we're still far from replicants going rogue like in Blade Runner, but there's no denying it could become a helpful tool. In the right hands, that is. Lately, some unethical companies have been using writers' works without permission to train programs. They're also leaving many in the animation industry without jobs. And here we thought robots would never replace us in making art.
Do you know what jobs AI hasn't taken over yet? Service industry positions. Yeah, let's leave humans to deal with the worst of their species while the robots do the fun stuff.
Taking Cutting Corners to a New Level
Russian companies haven't been having the best couple of years. Recently, they've had to deal with some pretty severe economic sanctions because of, you know, the war... One of the hardest hit was Russian airline Aeroflot, which was barred from operating in the United Kingdom, Iceland, Norway, Canada, the European Union, and the US. However, what they've been doing to keep themselves afloat will have you making a double take.
That takes cutting corners to a whole new level. We're surprised their flights haven't ended in tragedy yet. Do you see why going to war is never a good idea?
The Worst Person in the World
There are some mean people out there. Seriously, we don't like to expect the worst out of others, but lately, it seems everyone's just lying in wait to see if you stumble so they can bring you down. Not even children are safe! How will they learn anything if we don't give them a second chance when they mess up? Not that this kid did anything wrong.
We hope karma gives her what she deserves. Trying to scrape money off the kid you ran over is sinking to a new level of low we didn't know existed!
That's One Lucky Human
This may be the first time you read something that makes you wonder why humans haven't been wiped from the Earth because of their stupidity, but it won't be the last. Here's a PSA for anyone who didn't know: DON'T PUT METAL INTO THE MICROWAVE. No, not a fork, a spoon, or even a mug with pretty metallic details. If you don't want to blow up, don't do it.
Definitely don't put a can of any sort into the microwave, not even for your cat. For Pete's sake, this person should be concerned. How are they even still alive?
At Least They Were Upfront About It
Lately, it feels like the Internet is a minefield. Everywhere you look, there's a scam! It's enough to make even the chillest person feel paranoid. However, they're also getting less elaborated, and we're not sure if that's good or bad. On the one hand, it might mean that people are starting to fall for dumber schemes, but on the other, perhaps it's that the bad guys are getting stupider.
At least this one was upfront about the posting being a scam. No, it doesn't say "SCAM," but it literally says, "I cut the wire," so nobody would think those worked... right?
Calling the Pope a Communist?
There was once a time when politicians took their responsibilities seriously, but those days are long gone. Have you read the news lately? Look, it's not like we have a Ph.D. in Political Sciences, but there seems to be great confusion online as to what Communism is exactly. We'll leave the details to the experts, but one thing we remember is that Communism and religion didn't get along.
Remember "the opium of the masses" and all that? Well, you can't get more religious than the Pope, so how can he be a communist? It's not even a political thing...
Learning From Mistakes
We interrupt this barrage of cringe and depression to bring you a bit of optimism. Sure, at first glance, this interaction might make you feel like giving up on humanity, but if you take a second look at it, you may realize there's a silver lining to it. What's the most important thing when it comes to society being more inclusive of disabled people? Education, and that's exactly what's happening here.
Somebody is being educated. Sure, they just wrote one of the dumbest sentences in existence, but they quickly realized their mistake and corrected it, as evidenced by the edit.
They Said Water Came From Where?
It makes perfect sense for airlines to ask about dietary restrictions and allergies. It's nice to see them take it seriously. Nevertheless, most of the world still has much to learn about the subject. Like what products are plant-based and which ones aren't. You see, many forget that not everything that's non-dairy or that doesn't come from an animal has to come from a plant.
What plant do you have to milk to get water? Rocks? Seriously, are there people who don't know that water is a mineral? Although we do wonder, where exactly does it come from?
Don't Badmouth the Queen
Sometimes seeing the way celebrities are treated online makes us sad. Sure, you could argue that they signed up for it and that being talked about is an expected consequence of fame, but that doesn't mean they deserve some of the abuse strangers hurl at them. Take Beyoncé, for example. You may think she's untouchable, but the reality is much more different. Apparently, people are out there calling her a Satanist.
Accusing Beyoncé of eating children? That's a new one. It's so dumb that nobody would believe that, but the fact that someone even thought it is already disturbing.
We Don't Even Know How to React
Are people OK? We ask that with all sincerity. We've seen things online that make us wonder if we shouldn't all be in therapy, and we mean all of humanity. Here's our thought process: if some are willing to believe a person is selling a baby instead of baby clothes, then there's something deeply wrong with the world. Don't believe us? Then how do you explain this conversation?
On second thought, this has to be a joke because how could someone suggest doing something illegal that could easily be traced back to them? Unless they're dumb on top of evil.
You Can't Be Against Stem Cells
Don't you feel like sometimes people say they don't like something without knowing what they're opposed to? Most of us know to reserve judgment before opening our mouths, but then again, that doesn't apply to social media. In there, everyone posts whatever comes to their minds first, with no filter. There's no better evidence for individuals online being against things just to be a contrarian than this.
You can't be "against" stem cells; you're made of stem cells... Besides, understanding how they work could help us learn more about certain conditions and develop cures.
Would They Rather Children Learn Roman Numerals?
The world would be better if we could all set aside our prejudices and judge individuals for who they indeed are. However, it's not even realistic to expect that. Some biases are just too hard to get rid of. Sometimes we see something that gives us a glimmer of hope, but unfortunately, then we come across a poll like this and lose all our faith again.
For anyone who didn't know: Arabic numerals are the ones we use every day, like 1, 2, and 3. Besides, half of them probably don't even understand what XVII means.
They Don't Teach People Fractions Anymore
Keeping with the "people don't know maths" theme, here's another sign that the education system is failing us. NOBODY KNOWS THEIR FRACTIONS ANYMORE. What would be your answer if we asked you whether a third or a fourth was bigger? No looking at the picture to cheat. Then, how would you justify why one answer is correct instead of the other? Regardless of which you chose, you'd have a tough time explaining.
Think about it this way: the more portions you have to cut, the smaller they'll get. If you divided a pound of cake into three instead of four, each piece would get more.
Music Lyrics Are Getting Deep...
Most of us have this idea that song lyrics always have deep meanings, especially when we're teenagers. However, as we grow up, we realize that's not true. Even The Beatles have some dumb songs —a lot, actually— and so do many other great bands. Remember how Roger Taylor wrote one about how much he was in love with his car? Well, rappers aren't immune to writing stupid lyrics, either.
We're sorry to tell you this, Joey, but that's not how diseases work. You can't absorb all the viruses, parasites, fungi, and bacteria like you're Kirby and make everyone healthy.
They Killed George Lucas
Isn't it strange how rumors work? Sometimes the news that some celebrity is dead spreads, and then they have to go and say that they're still very much alive. The most curious part is that this also happened before social media and the Internet existed. One of the latest victims of this mass hysteria has been George Lucas, who was believed dead by one Star Wars fan.
They must not have been much of a fan if they didn't know the man was alive and kicking. They made the post to rag on the actors' weights, and it backfired.
The US Isn't the Center of the Wold
What we're about to say may not sit great with many people, but many misconceptions Americans have are because they believe the rest of the world is just like the US. For example, most Spanish-speaking individuals living in the country are usually from neighboring Mexico or other parts of Central America, like Cuba, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, and even El Salvador. However, that's not the case everywhere else.
You see, Spanish was brought to most of America by the Spanish... who were white. Still, their language went on its own journey, and now it's spoken by many diverse peoples.
These Prints Are Always Hard to Read
Don't you find some decorations people hang in their houses pretty cringy? The truth is that not everybody has a great style or an eye for what looks halfway decent. What we hate most are those prints with words that always seem poorly arranged. Seriously, every time we see one of those, we start questioning if we might have dyslexia. This person even put two together!
Come on. You can't say you didn't read "IN EX HAHA LELE" the first time you saw that picture. We always have to do a double-take.
So Boys Can't Cry?
There's been a massive movement trying to get men to be more expressive of their feelings. It's for their health! Come on, guys, you can't keep bottling every emotion you have. It's OK to outwardly show what's happening inside you and communicate with others about your feelings. Oh, and definitely don't listen to this Twitter user, who seems to think a man crying during his wedding is wrong.
Crying during one of the most emotional experiences a man can live through is "gay." We thought the world had retired that as an insult. This take is wrong in every way.
Elon Are You OK?
Something's deeply wrong with billionaires nowadays. Did they always buy companies they didn't need and try to organize boxing matches with rival rich people? Because that's what Elon Musk is doing, and we find his whole deal a bit unhinged. What about you? Still, even the most ardent Musk fan must admit that the man is tittering toward the edge of a precipice, and posts like these prove it.
Why is spreading misinformation a good thing in his eyes? We thought Twitter prided itself on checking the facts circulating its platform. Apparently, Elon Musk doesn't care about the truth anymore.
Brain. Does Not. Compute.
Facebook's new marketplace function revolutionized the second-hand market. What one person needs, another one has, and now they can negotiate for it personally. Or, well, as personal as social media can get. Sure, there are a few scammers here and there, but for the most part, it seems to be working for many. However, as always, with human interactions, some can get a little bit weird.
It's all about communication, but how can you reach someone who thinks you're talking in a different language? Last time we checked, "dimensions" was an English word. Does nobody go to school anymore?
They're Not Even Trying to Disguise It
Many love a particular romance trope, which we'll call "the princess and the pauper." You know, the kind where the rich girl or boy falls in love with the poor street rat. We genuinely adore those kinds of stories because all the sneaking around and the angst feels so romantic. Still, we wouldn't want to go through that in real life, but that kind of inequality doesn't really exist in reality, right?
Oh wait... it does? Do rich people only date other wealthy people? We thought the world had moved on from that, but we guess we were more naive than we thought.
Someone Needs an Art History Refresh
Look, we get it; not everybody has the time or the will to enjoy staring at paintings. Besides, for most of the world, having artistic sensibility or knowledge about its history isn't a priority. That's sad because the desire to make art is one of the few things that distinguishes humans from every other animal on Earth. You'd think schools would emphasize teaching kids about it, but it seems not.
Some people online don't even know who Leonardo Da Vinci is! No, he wasn't in big blockbusters like Titanic nor great films like The Departed and The Wolf of Wall Street.
That's Bad Marketing
Remember how we mentioned the Facebook marketplace earlier? We also talked about how you had to be careful because there'd be a few scammers here and there. However, if they're all as bright as this person, then we think you'll be fine if you employ some healthy skepticism. Or if you just pay attention to the product photos since that carpet is quite obviously not pet-free.
Couldn't they have chosen a picture without the cat? In our eyes, if it weren't there, nobody would've known it wasn't pet-free... We're part of the problem, aren't we?
People Inventing What's Already Invented
They say that it is possible for two people in different places to come up with the same idea at a similar time. That said, there are some cases where it's evident that an individual is copying someone else. Either that, or they're pretty oblivious to the world around them and never realized the need they wanted to address had already been covered. Like this person, who didn't know gloves existed.
What's in a name, right? A glove by any other name would be just as cozy, so call it a hand sock if you like. Just admit you asked a dumb question!
The Biggest Contradiction Ever
This might be the news piece that broke us. After this, there's no believing humanity can be saved. We deserve to melt into oblivion or drown in the rising seas that climate change will bring. It's too bad that every other life form on Earth will suffer the same fate. One thing's for sure, though: humans deserve it. What's got us so riled up? See for yourself.
Talk about not practicing what you preach! Sometimes the ones who complain the most about the state of current affairs are the ones that are to blame for the poor state of the world.
That's (Not) Good Parenting
Parents, we have a question for you. Was there ever a time when your child said or did something that made you think: "Wow, this kid's smarter than me"? If there was, you're a better parent than many because some are so set on their superiority as "the adult" that they cannot recognize when they're wrong. Take this person, for example, who dismissed their daughter for correcting them.
Correcting them when they were wrong, that is. This makes us sad for the newer generations. Aren't we supposed to make things better for them? Instead, we're just putting them down.
Count Us Out
Did you know that Venus is the planet closest to Earth and not Mars? The thing is, most efforts have been focused on our red neighbor because our closest one is actually an inferno. Its atmosphere is so thick and traps so much heat that it's the hottest planet in our solar system. That doesn't stop some daredevils from wanting to visit it. One of them was OceanGate's co-founder.
Yeah, the company that built the ill-fated Titanic submersible that imploded and killed everyone aboard... We don't know about you, but they don't inspire much trust in us.
Did They Forget All US History?
If you've ever spent time on Quora, you know some questions posted there aren't made by the brightest individuals. We're sure that if they took a minute to think through what they were saying, they'd probably realize it's dumb, but most people on the Internet don't pause before they post. That's how we get gems like these, written by someone that probably forgot everything they learned in elementary, middle, and high school.
Who do they think the US had to fight against to become independent? Or did they think the British Empire only exported tea to the American continent?
This Is Bad in so Many Ways
Many men go through balding, although some women suffer from it too. It can take a toll on their confidence, so it's no wonder they seek treatments to combat it. However, it's always important to weigh the pros and cons. Some procedures are risky and painful and only have aesthetic purposes. That doesn't discourage some people from undergoing them, though. Take a look at this guy.
We have questions. Several. Isn't it uncomfortable to sleep with chains in your head? What if they have to get an MRI? Do they set off every metal detector they go through?
